Our Story

Tandem was founded with a simple mission; serving fresh & delicious food and beverages in a family-friendly environment, while fostering a community with our guests. Inspired by a cafe our founders often took their children to on the West Coast, our goal was to create a delicious bagel that would pair well with sandwiches, and the Tandem Bagel was born! Not boiled like a traditional New York-style bagel, our bagels are shaped using bagel formers, proofed, and baked in an oven that injects steam to introduce moisture for a soft crumb and crisp crust.

Our Easthampton location was built in 1871 to house a railroad depot with a baggage room, waiting room, and an office for the station master. When the demand for railroad travel declined in the 1950s, Williston Northampton School purchased the building to use as a maintenance building. From there, the building has housed a letterpress, welding classes in the courtyard, an art studio/living space for a Williston teacher, and finally Tandem’s flagship location.

Our bagels can be found around the valley!

You can find our bagels at Millstone Farm Market, Rice Fruit Farm, Familiars Coffee & Tea, Wild Roots, Ciesluk's, Barstow's Dairy Store & Bakery, Futura Coffee, GOODWORKS Café, & more, including many college dining halls around the area such as UMass and Amherst College.

Community Impact

Tandem is committed to supporting our communities in any way we can; from donating bagels and cream cheese to 5k races, survival centers, and fundraising events to producing a coloring book in which the proceeds go directly to the Children’s Advocacy Center in Northampton and our annual employee pet calendar, donating proceeds to a local animal shelter. We buy local ingredients whenever possible, including dairy from Mapleline Farm, meats from Arnold’s Meats, flours from Ground Up Grain, coffee from Jim’s Coffee, and more!

One of our biggest partnerships is with Girls on the Run. GOTR is a nonprofit that connects with girls throughout Western Massachusetts, teaching them the importance of self-confidence, healthy habits, and teamwork. Our bagels are a post-race snack for the participants at their 2 annual 5k races.
